Garage Fire - 346 West California Avenue

Glendale, CA – At approximately 2:10 pm, Glendale Fire Department units responded to reports of a structure fire at 346 W. California Ave. Fire units arrived on scene within 5 minutes of receiving the call and reported heavy fire coming from the rear detached garage. The home was not occupied at the time. Battalion Chief Brian Richey alerted residents in the structure behind the engulfed garage to evacuate for their safety. Firefighters initiated an aggressive fire attack and based on the severity of the fire; a second alarm was called upon arriving on scene. The garage fire spread to surrounding structures and trees. Firefighters were able to limit damage to adjacent properties. One firefighter received minor injuries. Knockdown of the fire occurred at 2:50 pm.
Once the fire had been extinguished, lengthy salvage and overhaul operations ensued. Along with assistance from the Burbank Fire Department, at the height of the fire, there were 15 units assigned to the incident to successfully confine the fire and ensure the protection of life and property. The cause and origin of the fire remains under investigation by the Glendale Fire Department.
