On July 1, 2017, the Glendale Police Department made an arrest of a man suspected of killing a Glendale resident who was found stabbed to death on June 30, 2017.  Thirty one year old Ernest Lee Culbertson from Tujunga, is charged with one count of murder and remains in custody with a $2,000,000 bail.   Investigators will seek formal charges on Monday.

On June 30, 2017 at approximately 6:12 pm, the Glendale Police Department received a “man down” call in the 1200 block of East Harvard Street in the City of Glendale.   Officers arrived on scene and located an unconscious adult male near an apartment complex.  Officers attempted to revive the man but learned he was already deceased from an apparent stab wound.

Glendale Police detectives were called to the scene who scoured the area for any potential witnesses and evidence.  A surveillance camera was located near the crime scene.  The footage did not capture the incident, but did however, show a person of interest who was in the crime scene at the time of the incident.  Officers and detectives immediately recognized and identified the individual as Ernest Culbertson, a known documented gang member, who they have had numerous contacts and arrests with.

Through investigative means, Culbertson was located in the City of Los Angeles by Glendale police officers.  Culbertson was found to be in possession of articles of evidence linking him to the crime.  He was placed under arrest and later confessed to the crime to detectives.

Based on the investigation, it appears Culbertson and the 51 year old victim knew each other and this was not a random attack.  It is still unclear what provoked the incident and detectives are still seeking for more evidence or any information the public may have regarding this incident.

Detectives are also still attempting to locate and contact the victim’s next of kin.  His identity will not be released until that notification is made.
