Glendale Receives Award of Excellence for On the Move Program

Glendale, CA – On September 7, 2017, the City of Glendale’s Communications and Community Relations Department was presented with the 3CMA Award of Excellence for their regularly scheduled program: On the Move. The award follows a long list of awards recognizing the department’s effectiveness at informing the public.

On the Move, a product of Glendale’s award-winning GTV6, is a short video series aimed at informing, interpreting and entertaining Glendale residents by providing the latest Glendale news and events. The 10-20 minute videos are released each month, and provide a myriad of insights to life in Glendale. Each show varies widely in the content featured, but recent episodes have highlighted Glendale Tech Week, the Glendale Beeline, and tips for safe driving. To watch the latest episodes, tune into channel 6 – the City’s local television channel – or go to youtube.com/myglendale.

“Great graphics and fun features make this program an enjoyable watch,” 3CMA judges wrote. “The employee spotlight was a great way to make city programs and services personal.  The program had a nice blend of segments that highlighted a variety of city programs and issues. Solid storytelling and crisp visuals."

3CMA is a national organization specializing in city and county marketing communications. According to their website, “3CMA has reviewed and lauded more than 12,000 entries in this competition, recognizing the absolute best in the art of communications and marketing.” This competition started in 1988 with the start of 3CMA.

Glendale’s Communications and Community Relations Department also received this year’s 3CMA award for its public service announcement on the City’s libraries produced by GTV6, and last year’s CAPIO award for its monthly newsletter, Glendale City Connection.

Tom Lorenz, the Director of the Communications and Community Relations Department, stated: “Awards like these result from a team that is committed to educating the public through entertaining and informative pieces on news that matters. We provide critical information so that residents can make informed decisions.”

The department offers several platforms to communicate with Glendale residents. The City’s Facebook and Twitter pages were essential to providing accurate, real-time information during the La Tuna Fire. Their Twitter page alone garnered over a million impressions over the three-day weekend.
