Draft Pedestrian Safety Plan to Be Released for Public Review at Community Event
GLENDALE, CA – The City of Glendale Community Development Department will officially release the draft Citywide Pedestrian Plan for public review on Monday, October 2nd from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM with the unveiling of a temporary 28-foot-long mural at the Central Park Paseo (216 S Brand Blvd, 91203).
The mural was designed by the Glendale community who were involved in development of the draft Pedestrian Plan. It colorfully illustrates their responses to the question, “What would help you walk more in Glendale?” The mural also demonstrates how public art can enhance the walking experience and enliven public spaces across Glendale; it will stay up during normal business hours during the week before being repurposed elsewhere in the city throughout the month of “Walktober.”
Survey responses illustrated in the mural are directly reflected in the draft Pedestrian Plan’s recommendations for safety improvements, policies, and programs to help save lives in Glendale. Staff will be on hand to answer questions about the draft Plan and to collect feedback from the community. Public review of the draft will continue through the fall, including hearings by City boards and commissions. The revised plan will be presented for adoption by the Glendale City Council sometime in early 2018.
The Citywide Pedestrian Plan was funded by a $500,000 grant from the State of California’s Active Transportation Program, alongside a second $500,000 grant for the Safety Education Initiative and Safe Routes to School Program. Together these programs fall under the Be Street Smart Glendale project, a citywide effort to make the City’s streets safe for all road users.
