2012

North Glendale Community Plan

The North Glendale Community Plan was honored in the category of Comprehensive Plans for Large Jurisdictions. The North Glendale Historic Context  was specifically awarded in the Focused Issue Planning category.

Comprehensive Design Guidelines
The new Comprehensive Design Guidelines, adopted by Council at the same time as the North Glendale Plan, won an award for Planning Excellence Award for Best Practice. The Maryland Arts and Entertainment District , “Maryland Off Broadway,” received a Neighborhood Planning Award.

American Planning Association

  • John Chase Visionary Award - Hassan Haghani
    Community Development Director, Hassan Haghani, was named the first recipient of the John Chase Visionary Award for critical thinking, creativity and mentoring. Stephanie Landregan, the current Chair of the Planning Commission, past member of Design Review Board and Historic Preservation Commission, and a Fellow of the American Society of Landscape Architects, was awarded the Citizen Planner of the Year for contributions to the field from a non-professional.

 


2011

Keep America Beautiful

  • First Place National KAB Award for Beautification for the Monterey Road Eco-Community Garden (West)
    This project brought together the City, schools, businesses, local service clubs and residents, transforming a vacant lot and longtime neighborhood eyesore into a beautiful garden which utilizes recycled water and showcases native plants in a demonstration garden.
  • 2011 First Place C.O.M. (Creativity in Outreach & Media) Award – Awareness Category
    This award honors an affiliate’s best media effort to raise awareness of the local organization, its values and its mission; to build an audience and constituency; to reach diverse audiences; and build the presence of the organization in the community. It honors the best overall efforts incorporating ANY COMBINATION of multiple media and tactics including the City’s "Volunteerism: It's a Matter of Civic Pride" PSA featuring 5th grader from Fremont Elementary School Sofia Young, was the centerpiece of the award winning outreach strategy which also included the use of social media and other tools.

  • 2011 President’s Circle Award
    Recognizing the exemplary effort made by Glendale to reduce litter, minimize waste, and beautify & improve our local community. In qualifying for the President’s Circle Award, Glendale has met KAB’s standards of excellence by conducting an annual Litter Index & engaging volunteers to take greater responsibility for their community environment. In addition, award recipients must conduct activities in Keep America Beautiful’s three core focus areas of litter prevention, waste reduction, & beautification/community improvement.

  • 2011 First Place Affiliate Award (communities with populations 50,000 – 200,000)
    Recognizes Glendale as the leading city with programs to prevent litter, beautify, reduce waste and improve quality of life.

 


2010

National Alliance of Preservation Commissions (NAPC)

  • Commission Excellence - Best Practices in Protection Award presented to the Glendale Historic Preservation Commission for its work, alongside the Historic District Advisory Committee, the Glendale Historical Society, and other community members, to create the ordinance and set of design guidelines that led to the City's successful implementation of historic districting in 2008/09.

2009
Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG)

  • Compass Blueprint, Honorable Mention, Furthering the Regional Vision Award presented to the Glendale Adams Square Revitalization Program.

2008
American Planning Association/Los Angeles Chapter

  • Planning Landmark Award, Award of Merit for the Glendale Craftsman Survey Project (with Galvin Preservation Associates).
  • Planning Excellence for Best Practice, Large Jurisdiction, Award of Merit for the Tri-cities American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) cooperative training program (in conjunction with the Cities of Burbank and Pasadena).

2007
The Downtown Specific Plan  (with Zimmer Gunsal Frasca) and Mobility Study (with Nelson/Nygaard Consulting Associates) were honored with the following awards:

The Design Guidelines for Residential Buildings in Adopted Historic Districts(with Architectural Resources Group) was honored with the following awards:
