MashUp
MashUp is an all-female contemporary company led by artistic directors Sarah Rodenhouse and Victoria Brown, aimed at creating innovative works that engage diverse communities with a special importance placed on motivating girls and women to be strong, confident, and articulate females. They inspire audiences by exploring a unique MashUp aesthetic combining jazz, modern, and hip hop vocabulary with a foundation strongly rooted in ballet. This performance will feature Intrinsic Motivation, a work focused on female self-exploration and gender equality.
Sarah Rodenhouse has had the pleasure of working on numerous commercial, film, and live stage jobs for companies including American Apparel, Benefit Cosmetics, and the feature film "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button." Beyond her training in LA and NYC, Sarah has studied various forms of dance in London, Florence, Melbourne, Bangkok, and Capetown, and is a certified pilates instructor. Sarah's work has been showcased at numerous events including the LA Dance Festival, Pasadena Dance Festival, Charlotte Dance Festival, Yerba Buena, and The LA Design Festival. Sarah loves to introduce dance and movement to those who might consider themselves "non-dancers.” She finds movement to be an excellent tool to promote creativity, wellness, and real connections with other people.
Victoria Brown is accomplished in a variety of technical styles of dance and holds a B.A. in Dance with a minor in Business from San Jose State University. She was accepted to the Broadway Dance Center Internship program in NYC following her summer training at the historic Jacob’s Pillow Summer Dance Intensive. Victoria's extensive knowledge in her field has led her to work with renowned companies such as LA Follies, Boogie Zone and Soul de Soul Dance Convention. She has choreographed for events such as LA Design Festival, International Women's Dance Day Event, LA Dance Festival, Check Us Out Dance Festival in NY and RAW LA. Her passion for teaching and choreography goes beyond the professional world as she teaches at various dance studios and schools around the US.
The Dance Series presents top dance companies from Southern California performing site specific work in non-traditional performance spaces around Brand Library. The performances will be followed by a reception and an opportunity to meet the artists. Performances begin at 4pm. The Dance Series is sponsored by the Brand Associates. Admission is free.
