Fish to Birds

FishToBirds 2August2019

Fish to Birds is the outgrowth of a series of Los Angeles workshops given by jazz singer, teacher and master vocal improviser Rhiannon. One of the founding members of Bobby McFerrin’s Voicestra, Rhiannon inspired her core of professional Los Angeles musicians to continue exploring the freedom and depth that her philosophy and methods gave them. A weekly singing session emerged from the workshops, and from that group Fish to Birds was born.

Performing since 2012 at LA venues the Blue Whale, Catalina Jazz Club, the E Spot at Vitello's, Alva's Showroom, WitZend, Curve Line Space and many more, Fish to Birds blends their individual abilities as singers and musicians to create varied group improvisations, incorporating jazz, body percussion, storytelling, on-the-spot harmonizing and lyric-writing, African music and any other inspirations that occur in the moment. The result is a creative, free-flowing, often humorous and always unexpected musical adventure.

Supported by the City of Glendale and the Glendale Arts & Culture Commission, with funding from the Urban Art Program and the Brand Associates.

Admission is free. Performances run 60 - 90 minutes without intermission.

Seating is limited and first come first served; no reserved seating.

The Plaza seats 75 - 90 people for a performance. Visitors are welcome to bring a chair or blanket and sit on the grassy hillsides in Brand Park.
