Virtual Teen Night Out Presents:
"Coping with Depression During a Pandemic"
On Thursday, September, 3, 2020, Youth & Family Services Section will present, “Coping With Depression During a Pandemic” with a virtual Teen Night Out (TNO) from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The topic will be presented by, Dr. Ilin Magran, with the Glendale Unified School District. Depression (major depressive disorder) is a medical illness that can interfere with your ability to handle your daily activities, such as sleeping, eating, or managing your school work. Well-meaning friends or family members may try to tell someone with depression to “snap out of it,” “just be positive,” or “you can be happier if you just try harder.” But depression is not a sign of weakness or a character flaw. Most people with depression need treatment to get better. Dr. Magran will discuss coping mechanisms for teens dealing with depression during the pandemic. Strategies will be discussed to help teens feel more positive, and optimistic about the future.
Teen volunteers will be able to receive volunteer hours for attending the virtual Teen Night Out meeting. Teens interested in attending our virtual TNO meetings should email John Maghaguian at jmaghaguian@glendaleca.gov or call (818) 937-7247. Follow us on Instagram @myglendaleteens.
