Duties
The Commissioner role will be to make advisory recommendations to the City Council on how to promote progress toward sustainability in the Greener Glendale Plan, Climate Action Plans, on issues relating to the environment and recommend priorities to promote regional leadership in sustainability. The Commission shall work in conjunction with City departments regarding the development, implementation and evaluation of sustainability programs.
Membership
- Five members
- Four year terms
- Two term limit
- Two (2) student ex officio non-voting members serve one year terms and are appointed by the commission.
- No compensation
Qualifications
The commission members shall be electors of the City of Glendale at the time of their appointment and during incumbency, except for the two ex officio student members. The two (2) student ex officio non-voting members shall be a Glendale student at high school level or above. The five (5) voting members of the commission shall be individuals who have exhibited knowledge of sustainable development and environmental sciences in general. Active commissioners are not allowed to serve on more than one board/commission/committee (as defined in Title 2 of the Glendale Municipal Code) at the same time.
Elected officials may not serve on the commission.

Ex Officio Student Commissioner Qualification
- A high school junior or above who attends an institute of higher learning in Glendale and/or lives in Glendale.
- Dedicated to the Glendale community.
- Interested in environmental issues.
- Available the first Thursday of the month at 5:30 PM to participate in Commission meetings.

Fill out the Student Ex Officio Commissioner application on Google Forms. It includes:
- List of specific subjects studied applicable to this position.
- List of Community Service, Awards, Clubs.
- A 250-500 word Statement of Interest and Purpose
- 2 Letters of Recommendation (if unable to submit through the Google Forms, email them to Sustainability@GlendaleCA.gov)
All to be submitted through the Google Forms application by June 9, 2024 11:59PM.
