City of Glendale, CA
Home MenuRoyal Boulevard
The Royal Boulevard Historic District consists of thirty homes along a curving, palm tree-lined stretch of Royal Boulevard in the Rossmoyne area. The district includes a fine variety of Period Revival homes, including excellent examples of the Spanish Colonial Revival, Tudor Revival, and French-inspired designs, built primarily between 1927 and 1948. It also is notable as the final component of the Haddock-Nibley Company's development of the Rossmoyne neighborhood, reflecting interesting aspects of early 20th century planning and suburbanization. Two homes in the district are also listed on the Glendale Register of Historic Resources for their fine architectural design and association with significant Glendalians, Bob Wian, founder of Bob's Big Boy, and Ed "Strangler" Lewis, world heavyweight wrestling champion of the 1910s and noted Glendale businessman.
