Background

The City of Glendale Community Services & Parks Department (City) has partnered with the Glendale Unified School District (GUSD) to develop a multi-purpose field with sports field lighting on the campus of Cerritos Elementary School. The City of Glendale will serve as the Lead Agency for the proposed project. This project was proposed and approved as an alternate to the Columbus Elementary School Soccer Field project.

The Cerritos Elementary School campus is located at 120 East Cerritos Avenue in the City of Glendale, Los Angeles County, CA. The proposed project would occur at the existing on-site athletic field and paved play area, which is located along the southern portion of the Cerritos Elementary School campus. The proposed project would disturb approximately 1.6 acres – consisting of the existing athletic field and basketball courts – along the southern portion of the Cerritos Elementary School campus. The proposed project would not impact other areas of the campus. The project site is bounded by Cerritos Elementary School campus buildings directly adjacent and to the north (fronting East Cerritos Avenue), Forest Lawn Memorial Park to the west across South Glendale Avenue, Cerritos Park directly adjacent to the south (fronting San Fernando Road), and commercial uses across South Brand Avenue to the east.

Project Scope

The project would result in the redevelopment of the existing grass field and paved play area with track a joint use multi-purpose artificial turf field with soccer markings and surrounding rubberized surface jogging, perimeter security fence with privacy screening, seating, restroom and storage/maintenance building(s), walkways, landscaping, irrigation, re-grading of the existing paved play area, and sports field lighting. The proposed project would make use of existing street and on-site parking. No change in parking would occur.

Budget

The budget for this project is $3.4 million.

Status Update

A Draft Mitigated Negative Declaration has been completed and will be presented to City Council when the agreements with GUSD are ready to be executed (Joint Use Agreement; Covenants, Conditions, Restrictions and Reciprocal Easement Agreement; Project Development Agreement).
