What are Peak Day Alerts?

Peak Day Alerts help everyone conserve energy.

A Peak Day Alert is an urgent call to Glendale residents via phone or e-mail to immediately conserve electricity and to shift demand to off-peak hours (after 9 p.m.). The Peak Day Alert program is an educational and emergency alert program that informs customers about how and when to conserve electricity.

Participation leads to high levels of conservation during heat waves which helps customers save energy and money, and take the strain off of the electric grid. This program is a voluntary residential program. 

What do I do when a Peak Day Alert is called?

At home or at work you can:

• Postpone using major appliances such as dishwashers or washing machines until after 9:00 p.m.
• Turn off all unnecessary lights, computers, digital clocks, phone chargers, and appliances.
• Adjust your air conditioning thermostat to 78 degrees or higher. Use a fan if possible.

When are Peak Days Alerts issued?

Ideally, a Peak Day Alert is issued a day in advance of when conservation is needed so that there is time to adjust electricity usage ahead of time.

Can I opt out of receiving Peak Days Alerts?

Yes. If you do not wish to receive Peak Day Alerts, you can opt out the following ways:

• If you received the Peak Day Alert via e-mail, follow the opt out instructions at the bottom.
• If you received the Peak Day Alert via phone, follow the prompts on the message to opt out of future calls.
