The Glendale Police Department’s License to Carry a Firearm Policy (Policy #208) should be reviewed prior to submitting an application. The information below outlines the Glendale Police Department’s process for reviewing CCW applications.
PHASE ONE:
All applicants shall complete sections 1-4 of the California Department of Justice "Standard Initial and Renewal Application for License to Carry a Concealed Weapon."
Sections 7 and 8 must be signed IN PERSON at the Glendale Police Department. These sections will be completed as part of your background interview.
No appointment is necessary to submit your application. An application can be submitted to the front desk of the Glendale Police Department during business hours. Once the application is received and processed, you will be contacted to schedule a background interview.
In addition to submitting an application, applicants shall submit the following for the review process:
- A cashier’s check or money order for $20.00 made payable to "City of Glendale"
In-Person Background Interview
- Be prepared to present:
- Valid proof of identity (California Driver’s License or Identification Card or Passport)
- Proof of City of Glendale residency. (ie. Utility Bill – must be in the applicant’s name)
- Proof of ownership and registration of each firearm to be licensed.
- Two recent passport-size photos (2 inches by 2 inches)
Once the above items are processed and the background check is complete and approved, applicants will be given directions for their Live Scan fingerprinting.
LIVE SCAN FINGERPRINTS: The applicant shall be required to submit fingerprints to DOJ. The applicant will be given instructions so results of the fingerprinting are returned to GPD. Separate fees apply.
When fingerprint clearance is complete, received and approved by Glendale PD, applicants will move on to PHASE TWO.
PHASE TWO:
Once the interview is complete and background approved, the applicant will be provided instructions for completion of:
- A Psychological Examination (separate fees apply)
- Firearms Safety Course (separate fees apply)
- Course will include a Proficiency Exam and Weapons Inspection
FINAL: Once the Chief of Police or authorized designee has verified the completion of phase two, the license to carry a firearm will either be granted or denied.
Upon approval, an appointment will be scheduled for the applicant to submit remaining local fee ($80.00, cashier’s check or money order), sign and obtain the license.
