Scope of Work

The project involves the construction of approximately 4,300 linear feet of gravity sewer pipeline by using both trenchless and open-cut trenching methods starting at the City's owned sewer main on Colorado Boulevard, in the City of Los Angeles, and continuing to the Public Works Yard and West Chevy Chase Drive, in the City of Glendale.

  • Installation of a 36" and a 48" sewer pipes inside steel casings by trenchless method from Colorado Blvd at San Fernando Rd, crossing under the Metrolink railroad tracks to Elk Avenue and San Fernando, then South on San Fernando Rd to intersection of San Fernando/Los Angeles St.
  • Installation of a 36" sewer pipe by open-cut trenching from the San Fernando Rd to Los Angeles St intersection, South on Los Angeles St, East on Garfield Ave, and South to the Public Works Yard.
  • Construction of the large shafts for the jacking and receiving pits to install trenchless equipment and future sewer manholes and sewer metering vault/flume.
  • Connection of the existing service laterals
  • Sewer and water main bypass

Construction Updates

  • UPDATE April 17, 2018: Work on the Chevy Chase Sewer Diversion project has been completed and all road closures have been lifted. Thank you to residents and businesses for your patience throughout this project!
  • UPDATE February 6, 2018: 

    Westbound Chevy Chase Dr. will be closed between San Fernando Rd. and the railroad tracks along the boundary with the City of Los Angeles. The work will last for approximately 3 weeks starting February 20, barring any unforeseen conditions. Automated messaging signs will be posted on San Fernando Rd. both north and south of Chevy Chase Dr., as well as on Chevy Chase Dr. Traffic traveling westbound on Chevy Chase Dr. from Glendale to Los Angeles will be redirected at the intersection of Chevy Chase Dr. and San Fernando Rd. to the detour route (see map below). Drivers can use San Fernando Rd., Los Feliz Rd., and either Perlita or Brunswick Ave. to get around the construction area. Click here for more information regarding the closure.
