Home MenuI-5/SR-134 Congestion Management Project
Schedule
The project is scheduled to begin construction on April 22, 2013 and be completed by November 2013, barring any unforeseen conditions.
Scope of Work
The Cities of Glendale and Burbank jointly applied for and received a Proposition C Discretionary Grant from Los Angeles County Metro to implement the I-5/SR-134 Congestion Management Project. The scope of the project is to improve the operations of surface street connections between the I-5 and SR-134 Freeways in Glendale and Burbank. Vehicular traffic currently uses surface streets to travel between I-5 and SR-134 because the freeway connection is not provided for all directions. The City of Glendale's portion of this project involves modifying five traffic signal intersections, installing approximately 13,545 feet of fiber optic cable and 2,055 feet of communication conduit, four closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras, and vehicle system detectors. The benefits of the improvements include:
- Enhance traffic flow along surface streets in the vicinity of the I-5/SR-134 Freeway interchange;
- Enhance operational safety at the modified traffic signals;
- Enable traffic engineers and police personnel to monitor and manage traffic incidents during peak hours and holidays using CCTV cameras; and,
- Reduce traffic delays, improve travel time, and consequently reduce fuel consumption and vehicle emission.
- Traffic Signal Modification work at intersection of Sonora Ave & Lake St
