Scope of Work
Grandview Avenue At-Grade Railroad Crossing
- Widen Grandview Avenue between Air Way and San Fernando Road
- Modify the existing raised concrete median islands
- Adjust approach grades on Grandview Avenue and modify the intersection at San Fernando Road
- Improve the storm drain system at the crossing and on San Fernando Road
- Modify the signage, striping and channelization on Grandview Avenue, San Fernando Road, and Air Way
- Improve street lighting at the crossing
- Install two self-closing pedestrian emergency exit swing gates, ADA truncated domes, 12" white line at crosswalks, hand railing, new sidewalk, new AC pavement and new concrete crossing panels
- Install extinguishable message "No Right Turn" signs
- Install pre-signal on Grandview Avenue (eastbound)
- Modify the traffic signal system at the intersection of Grandview Avenue and San Fernando Road
- Install a traffic signal system at the intersection of Grandview Avenue and Air Way
- Install one 20-inch-diameter steel duct and two 30-inch-diameter steel ducts under the railroad tracks for GWP Water and Electric respectively
Sonora Avenue At-Grade Railroad Crossing
- Modify the existing raised concrete median islands
- Modify signing and striping on Sonora Avenue
- Improve street lighting at the crossing
- Restrict left turn movements at driveways (east of the railroad tracks) that are in conflict with track clearance operation
- Install four self-closing emergency exit swing gates, ADA truncated domes, 12" white line at crosswalks, hand railing, new sidewalk, new AC pavement and new concrete crossing panels
- Install extinguishable message "No Right Turn" signs
- Install pre-signal on Sonora Avenue (westbound)
- Modify the traffic signal system at the intersection of Sonora Avenue and Air Way
- Install two 30-inch-diameter steel ducts under the railroad tracks for GWP Electric
Railroad Safety Enhancements
In addition to roadway improvements, there are railroad safety improvements that are necessary in Metro's right of way for both crossings as follows:
- Install curb and median mounted CPUC standard No. 9 and No. 9E gates with flashing light signals
- Install CPUC Standard No. 9 automatic pedestrian gate arm with flashing light signals
- Install advanced railroad preemption systems
- Upgrade track circuiting to support advanced preemption time
- Install Intelligent Serial Preemption Interconnect (1-SPI) systems to provide interconnection with traffic signal systems to monitor railroad crossing operation and safety
