Public Works Yard Recycled Water Main and Adjacent Streets Rehabilitation Project

Scope of Work

This project consists of two parts: the Public Works Yard Recycled Water Main Extension Project and an accompanying rehabilitation of neighboring streets.

The Recycled Water Main extension involves the construction of approximately 1,600 linear feet of 8-inch PVC recycled water pipeline to serve the Public Works Maintenance Services Yard. It will start from San Fernando Road at Los Angeles Street, be routed south on Los Angeles Street through the Yard, and end at the southern portion of the Yard, which is located at 548 W. Chevy Chase Dr. in Glendale. This extension will provide convenient locations for the users of recycled water to fill their water tanks prior to heading out to service areas, and is anticipated to provide an annual potable water savings of 1.9 million gallons. It will also provide a recycled water source for the clarifier wash-rack used for cleaning the debris holding bins for street sweepers and wastewater combination units used by the Integrated Waste Management Division. This is anticipated to provide an additional 600,000 gallons of potable water savings annually, for a total anticipated savings of 2.5 million gallons of potable water per year.

Streets adjacent to the Public Works Yard and the Water Main Extension portion of this project are being designed for various street rehabilitation efforts, such as slurry sealing, street resurfacing and street reconstruction; the form of rehabilitation will differ based on the condition of the streets. The streets currently in design for rehabilitation are:

  • Los Angeles Street, between San Fernando Road and its south terminus south of West Garfield Avenue (on the north side of the Public Works Yard)
  • West Windsor Road, between Los Angeles Street and San Fernando Road
  • West Garfield Avenue, between Los Angeles Street and San Fernando Road
