Scope of Work
The project will involve upgrading traffic signals to improve traffic progression and enhance traffic safety at six intersections along Honolulu Avenue and Montrose Avenue as listed below. All signal installations will be designed based on the latest California Department of Transportation standards. Furthermore, all six intersections will be outfitted with the latest fiber optic hardware and equipment to make them capable of connecting to the future Traffic Management Center.
The project scope of work includes the following:
- Modification of existing traffic signals
- Installation of new curb ramps to meet current Federal Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements
- Installation of new striping and pavement markings

Construction Updates
The Honolulu Avenue Traffic Signal Modifications Project is 100% complete. The construction period began mid-April 2022 and concluded June 2023. Traffic Signal improvements included traffic signal modifications using Measure R Funds, fiber optic improvements, curb ramp upgrades, sidewalk modifications, new high visibility crosswalk installations, signing and striping improvements, and information exchange network enhancements between the Honolulu Avenue corridor and the traffic management center located at City Hall.
